Speaking as a Dean supporter, I would say that Dean is the one who gives me hope while Clark just feels like a stop-gap against the dangers of the present.

I've met Clark supporters whose primary reason for supporting him seems to be simply that they think he has a better chance of beating Bush than Dean. That's NOT what I would call a message of hope.
